Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday urged efforts to build a more stable, resilient and robust comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the United Arab Emirate (UAE), when meeting with visiting Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi.

Xi extended a warm welcome to the crown prince, expressing pleasure to meet him in Beijing. "The UAE is a comprehensive strategic partner of China. China has always attached great importance to the development of China-UAE relations. Today, our world, our times, and history are changing in ways like never before. Humanity has to make a historic choice between peace and war, between unity and confrontation, and between development and decline. As important members of the Global South, China and the UAE need to enhance coordination and cooperation to build a more stable, resilient and robust comprehensive strategic partnership," Xi said.

"Your Excellency Mr. President, the partnership between the people of the UAE and China has a long history and deep roots. The UAE attaches great importance to its partnership with China. We are committed to further promoting the development of bilateral relations and exploring broader prospects," said the crown prince.

China hopes the British government will provide a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies, and work to advance practical cooperation in trade and economic fields to promote healthy bilateral relations.

A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce made the remarks in response to the British government's recent statement that it does not support the use of wind turbines from Chinese manufacturer Mingyang Smart Energy Group Co., Ltd in UK offshore wind projects.

The spokesperson noted that excluding Chinese products from UK wind power projects on the grounds of "national security" runs counter to the UK's long-standing commitment to an open and free market, and is not conducive to local economic development and public welfare. The move, the spokesperson said, will negatively impact practical cooperation in bilateral trade and economic relations, which China firmly opposes.

The spokesperson said that during Prime Minister Keir Starmer's official visit to China in January, the UK side expressed willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in trade, investment, finance, and environmental protection, aiming to boost economic growth and benefit people of both countries.
