The stores which are friendly to pets have seen their customer flows rising in Beijing as the arrival of spring has made pet consumption more popular.

According to the 2026 China Pet Industry White Paper (Consumption Report), the number of pet dogs and cats in China's urban areas reached 126 million in 2025, driving the pet consumption market to 312.6 billion yuan (about 45.4 billion U.S. dollars). The market is expected to expand further to 405 billion yuan by 2028.

At a pet-friendly coffee shop in Beijing, an outdoor lawn has been specially provided for pets to run and play, allowing both owners and their pets to enjoy a pleasant leisure time. Such stores become a new leisure destination for pet-owning families in Beijing.

"As spring comes, I want to take my dog out for a walk. I saw this coffee shop online. We can walk dogs and have coffee and something to eat here," said He Yiyin, a customer at the coffee shop.

In addition to leisure space, such stores also offer a wide variety of products for pets to enjoy.

"We pay close attention to pets' movements in a timely manner. We not only provide people with coffee, desserts and food, but also prepare fresh food for pets. So both the customer flow and sales volume are increasing," said Tian Ziyi, manager of a coffee shop.

A proposed bill on the management of the Strait of Hormuz has entered the review stage at Iran's Supreme National Security Council and will be submitted to parliament for debate and voting after final conclusions are reached, Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency reported on Wednesday.

No details about the bill's contents were disclosed.

According to the report, work on the legislation has been underway for some time. In addition to the parliamentary review process, several specialized parliamentary committees have participated in studying and assessing the proposal, including the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, the Construction Committee, and the Councils and Internal Affairs Committee.

The report said the committees and several lawmakers had previously submitted separate proposals and drafts. Following a process of coordination and consolidation, a unified text has been prepared and is awaiting further review.
