Overseas automakers are stepping up collaboration with Chinese partners on innovation, seeking to upgrade their supply chain relationships and better contribute to innovation in the global automotive sector.
At the Mercedes-Benz Brand Day event in Beijing on Thursday, the company's new all-electric SUV, equipped with a CATL battery, made its debut.
With a driving range of over 700 kilometers, it also features smart driving technologies from Chinese tech firm Momenta.
"We're doubling down on innovation and investment into new technologies, and in doing so, we're taking advantage of the ecosystem that we have here in China, which is very dynamic. So in the future, we will use China even more for innovation, not just for China, but also for the world," said Ola Kallenius, chairman of the Board of Management for Mercedes-Benz Group.
Hyundai Motor is also advancing its "In China, For China, To Global" strategy, which aims to launch 20 new models in the next five years, as well as develop technologies like intelligent connected vehicles in partnership with Chinese companies.
"We believe that the China market has become the most advanced and most competitive market in the world. We are not doubling down in China, we are tripling down," said Jose Munoz, CEO of Hyundai.
Bosch Mobility from Germany is also accelerating its collaborative research, development, and rapid mass production with Chinese partners.
Built on high-performance chips, its intelligent cockpit domain controller has surpassed 10 million installations worldwide.
"China is the powerhouse of innovation for AI, in infotainment, in autonomous driving. Together with our partners -- the Chinese OEMs, we are now helping to bring this across to the global world. And as Bosch being a global company, we can also facilitate our global strength in order to move the China innovative products into the world. So China innovation and global sharing," said Christoph Hartung, a member of board of Bosch.
