The United Nations appreciates that China and the United States have maintained dialogue and communication, and proper handling of differences between the world's two largest economies will benefit global stability and economic development, a U.N. spokesman said on Monday.

Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for the U.N. secretary-general, made the statement in response to a media query regarding the upcoming meeting between the presidents of China and the United States.

"We are certainly appreciative of the efforts by the two governments to deal with their outstanding issues through dialogue, and we encourage them to keep up with the track of dialogue in order to resolve any differences that they may have," said Haq.

Haq noted that many issues on the current international agenda require the role of major countries, including China and the United States.

He also emphasized that the two countries carry significant weight in the global economy, and their economic relations have a notable impact on the world economy.

"The United States and China are two of the main economic powerhouses of the world, and any way that they can deal with any of their differences in economic policies would be beneficial for the world as a whole," he said.

At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, U.S. President Donald Trump will pay a state visit to China from May 13 to 15, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on Monday.

Construction of the fifth phase of Guangzhou Port's Nansha Port area, one of the major national projects, commenced in Nansha District of Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong Province, on Friday.

The project is designed with an annual container throughput capacity of 6.7 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), according to the Guangzhou Port Group.

It has four deep-water berths, each capable of accommodating 200,000-ton container vessels, with a combined shoreline exceeding 3,800 meters.

Upon completion of the Phase V project, the total container throughput capacity of the Nansha Port area is expected to reach 35 million TEUs annually. This would place it among the world's leading single port complexes in terms of handling capacity, further solidifying Guangzhou's status as an international shipping hub.
