The Karasu Port -- the sole land port between China and neighboring Tajikistan -- has seen double digit growth in both cross-border flow of personnel and vehicle transportation so far in 2026.

The port, located in Kashgar of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, recorded over 11,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips this year as of Monday, up 17 percent year on year. Outbound and inbound vehicles have exceeded 10,000, making up a 15 percent increase.

"As economic and trade exchanges between China and Tajikistan continue to heat up, the number of inbound and outbound freight vehicles and personnel passing through Karasu Port has grown steadily. Karasu immigration inspection station has consistently optimized inspection procedures to ensure safe, orderly, efficient, and smooth customs clearance at the port." said Liu Mingqiu, deputy head of the border inspection division at the immigration inspection station in Karasu.

Close trade ties have also accelerated the pace of China's commercial vehicle exports. Over 7,000 Chinese-made vehicles, including passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks, have been exported to Tajikistan and other Central Asian countries through the Karasu Port so far this year.

"Everything is fine, there's no problem, just as everything is fine between China and Tajikistan. I have been working on this China-Tajikistan trade route for three years, and I haven't run into any problem," said a Tajik freight driver.

Construction of the fifth phase of Guangzhou Port's Nansha Port area, one of the major national projects, commenced in Nansha District of Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong Province, on Friday.

The project is designed with an annual container throughput capacity of 6.7 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), according to the Guangzhou Port Group.

It has four deep-water berths, each capable of accommodating 200,000-ton container vessels, with a combined shoreline exceeding 3,800 meters.

Upon completion of the Phase V project, the total container throughput capacity of the Nansha Port area is expected to reach 35 million TEUs annually. This would place it among the world's leading single port complexes in terms of handling capacity, further solidifying Guangzhou's status as an international shipping hub.
