International observers said that the diplomatic achievements of the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump will not only stabilize bilateral ties but also have far-reaching influence on global economic growth and cooperation.

At the invitation of Xi, Trump paid a state visit to China from Wednesday to Friday. The two leaders held talks in Beijing on Thursday.

"The aim of this important high-level diplomacy is not about creating or eliminating competition, but about ensuring that competition happens within a framework that guarantees peace and global development. This meeting reflects efforts to achieve global balance and enhance trust among nations. Against the backdrop of frequent conflicts worldwide, this historic summit has become a vital reference point for building trust and stability," said Edgar Tello, member of the Peruvian Congress.

"The talks between President Xi and President Trump achieved major results. This is not only about the future development of two great nations, but also benefits developing countries like Chile," said Luis Schmidt, former Chilean ambassador to China.

"China and the United States are the world's largest economies, and their relationship is one of the most important bilateral relationships globally. From this perspective, the diplomatic outcomes of the two leaders will not only stabilize the relations of the two countries, but also bring broad and profound influence to global economic growth and models of cooperation," said Chang Jong Hoi, head of AI Media Department, Korea Financial Times.

"The U.S. values the Chinese market, and China's market is enormous. China also needs the U.S. market. Trade flows between the two are massive. Decoupling would come at a very high cost for the U.S., for China, and for the entire world. Cooperation and partnership are better than confrontation and competition," said Konstantin Blokhin, a researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 45-day extension of their ceasefire that took effect last month, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department said Friday.

"The April 16 cessation of hostilities will be extended by 45 days to enable further progress," State Department spokesman Tommy Piggott said on X.

Israel and Lebanon will resume political negotiations at the U.S. State Department on June 2-3, while their military delegates are set to launch parallel security talks at the Pentagon on May 29, Piggott said.

The two countries held their third round of direct talks in Washington D.C. on Thursday and Friday, which Piggott described as "highly-productive."

Despite the ceasefire, clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon have continued. Israeli strikes killed at least nine people and wounded dozens in southern Lebanon on Friday, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.

Hezbollah said it targeted Israeli drones, troops, military bulldozers, and a Merkava tank in several areas of southern Lebanon.

Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said that Israeli attacks between March 2 and May 15 killed 2,951 people and wounded 8,988 others.
