Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia-China ties have reached an "unprecedented level" and expressed readiness to work with China to build a more just and democratic world order as he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday.
Putin arrived in Beijing late on Tuesday night for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Xi. This is also his 25th visit to China.
During talks with Xi at the Great Hall of the People, Putin opened his remarks by quoting an ancient Chinese proverb -- "one day apart feels like three years" -- to convey his delight at once again meeting with the Chinese president.
"Today, Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedented level, standing as a genuine model of comprehensive partnership and strategic coordination. We stand ready to work with China to defend the diversity of civilizations, respect the sovereignty and development of all nations, and remain committed to building a more just and democratic world order," Putin said.
