China opposes forming exclusive groupings or engaging in bloc confrontation in regional cooperation, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning on Tuesday.
The so-called Quad mechanism, comprising the United States, Japan, India, and Australia, held a foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday and announced a maritime surveillance initiative for the Indo-Pacific region.
"China has stated its position on Quad on multiple occasions. We always believe that cooperation between countries should be conducive to regional peace, stability and prosperity, and not target any third party. We oppose forming exclusive groupings or engaging in bloc confrontation," said Mao at a regular press conference.
