How to resolve the Taiwan question is solely a matter for the Chinese people, which brooks no external interference, said Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning in Beijing on Thursday.
Mao made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to a media query about a report published by an international think tank concerning the Taiwan question.
"First, the Taiwan question is China's internal affair. Resolving the Taiwan question is solely a matter for the Chinese people, which brooks no external interference. Safeguarding peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait requires an unequivocal stance against 'Taiwan separatism.' The United States, for its part, should implement well the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their meeting, and handle the Taiwan question with utmost prudence," said Mao.
