The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, dropped 0.11 percent to 99.419 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro added to 1.1614 dollars from 1.1598 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound advanced to 1.3425 dollars from 1.3416 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 160.02 Japanese yen, lower than 160.03 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.7892 Swiss francs from 0.7924 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3899 Canadian dollars from 1.3895 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 9.3737 Swedish kronor from 9.4065 Swedish kronor.

Russia and Ukraine each exchanged 185 prisoners of conflict on Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Moscow brought 185 Russian servicemen back from territory controlled by Ukraine, while handing 185 Ukrainian captives over to Kiev, it said.

It added that the returned Russian servicemen are currently in Belarus receiving psychological and medical care and will later be transferred to Russia for further treatment and rehabilitation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on the same day the return of 185 soldiers as well as one civilian to Ukraine.
