Artificial intelligence (AI) is not the exclusive domain of major countries, nor should it slide into an arena of confrontation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Friday.
Mao made the statement at a regular press briefing when answering a query related to AI. "AI is profoundly transforming production and lifestyles, and is a new challenge that humanity needs to face together. AI is not the exclusive domain of major countries, nor should it slide into an arena of competition or confrontation. China has always upheld a people-centered, open, inclusive, and beneficial approach to AI. We have put forward the Global AI Governance Initiative, hosted the World Artificial Intelligence Conference for eight consecutive years, and proposed the creation of a global AI cooperation organization. The core purpose is to build consensus through dialogue, deepen cooperation, and create an open, equal, fair, and non-discriminatory environment for the development of AI," Mao said.
"China will host the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai in July this year. We look forward to taking this conference as an opportunity to have in-depth exchanges and dialogues with all parties, so as to strengthen global AI governance and promote AI services for the well-being of all mankind," she said.
