Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith praised Chinese President Xi Jinping as a far-sighted leader and a "pillar of peace," as the Southeast Asian country's leader is paying a five-day state visit to China.

Thongloun arrived in Hangzhou on Tuesday for a five-day state visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. The visit came less than nine months after his last trip to China in September 2025.

In an interview with China Media Group (CMG) after his arrival, Thongloun lauded Xi's governance philosophy amid global geopolitical tensions.

"President Xi Jinping's ability to govern the country and handle major affairs has left a deep impression on us. He is far-sighted and has strong leadership. In today's turbulent world, he stands as a pillar of peace and stability, and that is extremely important," Thongloun said.

The Lao leader also highlighted Xi's focus on cultural preservation.

Just days before embarking on his state visit to China, Thongloun sent a special congratulatory letter to mark the broadcast of several Chinese documentaries on Lao television, including "The Heritage Guardian."

"At the same time, President Xi is also an outstanding master of culture. I have studied his thinking on cultural development, and I've found it deeply impressive. That is why I sent a congratulatory letter for the event. President Xi has been unwavering in his commitment to protecting and preserving China's cultural heritage. That is truly admirable. I wish him continued success in this important undertaking, so that generation after generation of Chinese people will continue to preserve and inherit China's precious traditional culture," said Thongloun.
