U.S. media outlet Axios on Thursday disclosed details of a proposed peace agreement between the United States and Iran to end their hostilities, citing diplomats from mediating countries, U.S. officials and other sources.

According to the report, a diplomat from one of the mediating countries, who walked Axios through the latest text, said, "the U.S. and Iran have agreed on the text of a deal," but acknowledged the deal still needed final sign-off.

According to two diplomats from two mediating countries and two U.S. officials, the tentative agreement was reached on Wednesday night after hours of negotiations between Qatari mediator Ali Al-Thawadi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, said the report.

During the talks in Tehran, Al-Thawadi spoke on the phone multiple times with U.S. President Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, two sources said.

According to Axios, as of Thursday evening, the deal had been approved on the Iranian side at high levels but likely not by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, two sources with knowledge said. The report also mentioned that four U.S. Air Force C-17 planes departed to Europe on Thursday, moving equipment for possible travel by Vice President JD Vance to a signing ceremony in Geneva in the coming days.

The report said that the draft agreement would extend the ceasefire for 60 days, including in Lebanon, during which time nuclear negotiations would be held. The draft agreement calls for the Strait of Hormuz to be reopened immediately without tolls.

According to the report, U.S. officials previously told Axios that after reopening the strait, Iran would be given temporary sanctions waivers to allow it to sell oil for 60 days. But it's unclear whether the text includes any detailed explanation of what will happen with Iran's frozen assets worth 24 billion U.S. dollars.

The report said the U.S., Iran and Qatar in recent days discussed a mechanism by which Iran would gain access to some of its frozen funds in Qatar for purchasing humanitarian goods, according to a U.S. official and a source from one of the mediating countries.

The report also mentioned that Trump's announcement that a deal had been finalized came as a surprise to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the report, Trump said on Thursday that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) could be signed over the weekend in Europe and that Vance was expected to lead the U.S. delegation.

The outlet also mentioned Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on the same day that an agreement hasn't been finalized yet.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency on Friday rejected claims that a peace MoU between Tehran and Washington has been finalized and will possibly be signed in Geneva on Sunday.

The United Kingdom's economy contracted in April, with the gross domestic product (GDP) falling 0.1 percent month on month after growing 0.3 percent in March, according to data released Friday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The main driver of the negative growth was cited as a 0.2 percent contraction in services.

According to the ONS, one of the biggest contributors to the decline in services was a 9.1 percent fall in sports, amusement and recreation activities -- the largest negative contribution from a single industry to services output and real GDP growth.

Some of the sector's decline was attributed to the war in the Middle East, as the cancellation of various sporting events in the Middle East affected the output of U.K.-based companies, said the ONS.
