China welcomes the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran, and appreciates Pakistan's mediation efforts, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Monday.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council said early Monday that a MoU between Tehran and Washington has been finalized, and the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, have ceased immediately and permanently.

"China welcomes the agreement reached by the United States and Iran on the contents of the first-phase MoU and appreciates the mediation efforts made by Pakistan. China hopes that the United States and Iran will sign the first-phase MoU as scheduled, and that all relevant parties will adhere to peaceful choices and resolve the issue through dialogue and negotiation. China is willing to work with the international community and continue to play an active role in restoring peace and tranquility in the Gulf region of the Middle East at an early date," Lin said.
