China's express delivery industry development index rose 3.1 percent year on year in May, with daily parcel volume exceeding 600 million for three consecutive weeks, the State Post Bureau said Monday.
The express delivery development index stood at 472.9 in May, according to the bureau.
Since seasonal fruits and vegetables began to flood the market in May, express companies have built a multimodal logistics network integrating air, high-speed rail and road transport to boost trunk line efficiency.
In southwest China's Yunnan Province, two cold-chain routes have been launched to serve core production areas of plateau specialty fruits and vegetables in the eastern part of the region. As a result, local fresh produce can now reach the provincial capital Kunming on the same day and be shipped to major consumer markets across the country within 24 to 48 hours through dedicated air cargo channels.
Express companies across the country have also adjusted staffing and capacity to meet demand from e-commerce promotions, contributing to rapid business growth. "The industry's scale continues to grow, facilities and networks are being optimized and upgraded, and the breadth and depth of the application of technological innovation have been continuously expanding. This has efficiently supported the shipment of seasonal agricultural products and achieved synchronized improvement in service quality and operational efficiency," said Liu Jiang, director of the Strategic Planning and Research Department at the Development and Research Center of the State Post Bureau.
