Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump have digitally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on ending the war, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Thursday in an interview with state-run IRIB TV.

Baghaei said that as the 14-point MoU has now been signed by the presidents of both countries, any violation of its commitments will naturally carry much higher costs for the offending party.

Noting that the oil sanctions against Iran must be removed, and not merely in writing, Baghaei stressed they must be accompanied by all requisite measures to ensure full implementation.

Iran must be permitted to sell its oil and petrochemical products freely and receive full revenues from these sales, he said.

Iran must be able to access its frozen assets whenever needed and use those funds for various types of procurement, the spokesman said.

On the same day, Baghaei also talked about the ceasefire and end of the conflict in Lebanon, saying that these two are as important as for Iran.

Speaking to IRIB TV, the spokesman said that the first article of the MoU mentions Lebanon three times, with emphasis on respect for its territorial integrity and national sovereignty.

He said that if Israel continues its aggression in Lebanon, it will be regarded as a violation of the commitment made by the United States in the MoU.

On Wednesday, Iranian media released the details of the Iran-U.S. MoU.

Under the deal, Washington commits to withdrawing troops from Iran's surrounding region, launching reconstruction efforts, lifting sanctions in accordance with the timetable in the final agreement, and unfreezing all restricted Iranian funds upon implementation of the MoU.

In return, Iran will ensure free and safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days, while both sides also agree to address stored enriched materials through a mutually agreed mechanism.

Meanwhile, two U.S. officials revealed on Wednesday that the MoU had been signed electronically and had gone into effect.

U.S. sources said that a formal signing ceremony was expected to take place on Friday in Switzerland.

Also on Wednesday, Pakistani media reported that the first contingents of delegations from Iran, the United States, and Pakistan have arrived in Switzerland.

However, Baghaei told IRIB TV on Thursday that the plan of the Iranian negotiation team to travel to Switzerland remains valid, but there would be no signing ceremony in the country.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz will not return to the pre-war conditions, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported

Iran has the right to exercise sovereignty over the strategic waterway, and of course the country will charge ships for services, the speaker said.

On Monday, Iran's Foreign Ministry said that the country would charge maritime service fees, rather than levy tolls, on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz under a framework agreement with the United States, according to media reports.

Three Iranian tankers carrying 5 million barrels of oil have sailed through the strait, according to Iran's state-run TV and other media outlets on Wednesday.
