U.S. dollar ticks down

The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Monday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.25 percent to 101.105 at 1900 GMT.

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.1425 U.S. dollars from 1.1386 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3257 dollars from 1.3200 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 161.97 Japanese yen, higher than 161.74 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.8075 Swiss francs from 0.8097 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.4203 Canadian dollars from 1.4192 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.7084 Swedish kronor from 9.7409 Swedish kronor.

U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 306.63 points, or 0.59 percent, to 52,182.74. The S&P 500 added 86.41 points, or 1.18 percent, to 7,440.43. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 522.53 points, or 2.07 percent, to 25,820.14.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by adding 3.11 percent and 2.68 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, materials and real estate led the laggards by going down 1.86 percent and 0.73 percent, respectively.
