The Chinese mainland will continue supplying safe and high-quality water to Kinmen to benefit people's livelihoods on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, said Chen Binhua, spokesman of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, on Wednesday.

Chen made the remarks when responding to a media query concerning the water supply project at a regular press briefing in Beijing.

According to official data, by early July, the cumulative volume of water supplied from Fujian to Kinmen had exceeded 50 million tonnes, with a 100-percent compliance rate for water quality standards. The milestone has drawn positive reactions from netizens on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Chen said, "We have always placed great importance on and actively supported the economic and social development of Kinmen, continuously taking measures to enhance the interests and well-being of Kinmen compatriots. The water supply project from Fujian's coastal areas to Kinmen was officially inaugurated on Aug 5, 2018."

"Currently, the average daily water supply from Fujian's coastal areas to Kinmen is approximately 22,000 tonnes. The project has continuously ensured the water needs of compatriots in Kinmen and effectively helped to conserve Kinmen's groundwater, addressing urgent livelihood needs in Kinmen, removing future concerns for its development, and therefore having been warmly welcomed by Kinmen compatriots. 'Compatriots on both sides of the Strait are one family and share the same water.' The water supply project from Fujian's coastal areas to Kinmen has become a model for cross-Strait cooperation in the livelihood sector. In the future, we will continue to deliver safe, high-quality and clean water to Kinmen, and use this living water to nourishes the livelihoods on both sides of the Strait," said Chen.

China on Wednesday launched a national summer holiday cultural and tourism consumption campaign, with more than 450 million yuan (about 66 million U.S. dollars) worth of consumer vouchers to be distributed.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the campaign aims to improve the supply of seasonal tourism products and services and encourage people to enjoy travel during the summer holidays.

Running from early July to late August, the campaign is expected to feature more than 30,000 activities nationwide, catering to popular travel demands, such as summer getaways, coastal vacations, night tourism, cruise trips and study tours.

The ministry, along with other relevant agencies, will put a series of support measures in place, ranging from travel information guides to preferential financial policies.

A launching event was held in Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Qinghai Province on Wednesday.

This campaign comes as China has set a target of significantly enhancing people's access to and satisfaction with tourism by 2030, according to a new five-year tourism development plan issued on Tuesday.
