China is planning to push forward the construction of new-generation communication network, a government official said on Monday.
Speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Xie Cun, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MITT), briefed the media on the ministry's key upcoming initiative: promoting the new-generation communication network.
He highlighted four key aspects that will differentiate the future communication network from traditional ones.
"First, the connected entities will expand beyond conventional individual users to a wider range of participants such as humans, machines, things, and embodied intelligence. Second, the coverage will go beyond the ground to achieve integrated connectivity across air, space, sea, and land," said Xie.
"Third, the determinacy and stability of connectivity will be greatly enhanced, so as to meet the diverse needs of industry applications. Fourth, network functions will evolve from purely information transmission to deeper integration across multiple capabilities, including communication, sensing, computing, intelligence, and security. In other words, the next generation of communication network will not just be an upgrade in the traditional sense, but also a critical revolution for building digital information infrastructure in the intelligent era," he noted.
Looking forward, the ministry will prioritize the next-generation communication network within the information and communications sector, focusing on three main areas: network construction and deployment, industry support and empowerment, and application innovation and promotion.
