China's cooperation with Iran is always conducted within the framework of international law and should not be interfered with or disrupted, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday.
Lin's remarks came after the U.S. threat of sanctions against Iran's trading partners.
"China's cooperation with Iran has always been conducted within the framework of international law and should not be interfered with and disrupted. China is closely watching the relevant development and will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests," said Lin.

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.19 percent to 3,889.44 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.35 percent lower at 13,745.87 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 1.83 trillion yuan (about 269.7 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.01 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to small home appliances, agriculture and innovative medicines led the gains.
Sectors including precious metals, lithium mining and banking were among the biggest decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 1 percent to close at 3,397.52 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed flat at 1,896.08 points.
