A motorized floating bridge was deployed on Monday in Ningming County of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to transfer villagers who were stuck in flooded areas and deliver supplies to them.
Impacted by Typhoon Narra, the 19th typhoon of the year, Ningming has suffered from continuous torrential rainfall, which has caused water level rises and waterlogging in some villages.
After learning the situation, China Aneng Group soon deployed a powered pontoon bridge to carry out the rescue operation.
"Since the downstream land routes are cut off, we're using a powered pontoon bridge as a water rescue channel to get people out and get food and supplies in as quickly as possible," said Bian Fang, director of emergency rescue department with China Aneng Group First Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd.
When the floating bridge arrived at the impacted village, trapped locals, along with needed supplies, were transferred on the floating bridge.
"For people who cannot leave home due to the flood and run short of medicine, we are sending medicine to them. For example, this drug is for diabetes, and these are basic fever reducers and painkillers," said Liang Peifeng, a doctor from the Beijiang township clinic.
According to weather forecast, rainfall continues on Tuesday. Local residents especially those who live by the river have been urged to pay attention to safety when traveling.
