Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jiangping says cultural exchange is vital to preventing disputes and deepening mutual understanding, as she praised the bilateral ties between China and Kyrgyzstan.

The ambassador made the remarks as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Kyrgyzstan Sunday for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2026 and a state visit to the country.

Liu pointed to expanding exchanges in education, healthcare, and youth engagement as evidence of how cultural ties are taking root alongside economic cooperation.

"Cultural exchange is of great importance, especially in today's world. Enhancing mutual understanding among peoples of different countries can help prevent many disputes, and cultural exchange plays a vital role in that regard," she said.

Speaking about practical cooperation, the ambassador noted that China has long been Kyrgyzstan's largest trading partner, its largest source of imports, and its largest source of foreign investment.

"As neighbors, China and Kyrgyzstan have enjoyed robust economic and trade cooperation. Last year, bilateral trade exceeded 27 billion U.S. dollars, representing more than a quarter of China's total trade with all five Central Asian countries. This is a truly remarkable achievement," said Liu.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the SCO. Under the theme "25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity", this year's SCO Summit is expected to bring together leaders from more than 20 countries in the Kyrgyz capital.
