Firefighters and militiamen have been mobilized to urgently rescue residents trapped by floodwaters in east China's Jiangxi Province, as ongoing heavy rains trigger widespread evacuations.
In Yongxin County of Ji'an City, two elderly villagers living alone were trapped by rising floodwaters on Friday. Firefighters rushed to the village for rescue, fitted them with life jackets, and carried them on their backs through the floodwater to safety.
Meanwhile, two residential communities in Suichuan County saw heavy flooding, prompting urgent evacuation. Firefighters promptly deployed rubber boats to assist in evacuating residents.
As of 20:00 Friday, a total of 86 residents from the communities had been relocated to shelters safely.
On the same day, residents in Guangming Township of Jinggangshan City were trapped by floods caused by rising river waters and blocked drainage.
Local militiamen rushed to the site to evacuate residents, reinforce dams and clear drainage.
"Thanks to our militia comrades who risk their own safety to help us evacuate and relocate amid the flood. We are really very grateful," said Lu Meihua, an evacuee.
After more than 10 hours of rescue effort, over 60 residents have been evacuated to safety. The militiamen sealed a breach of six meters and transported over 1,000 sandbags to reinforce vulnerable sections.
