China and the United States are maintaining communication on arrangements for interactions between the two heads of state within this year, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday.
Guo made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a media query concerning a recent meeting between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee met with Perdue in Beijing on Aug 26, calling for the removal of obstacles ahead of upcoming high-level exchanges between the two countries.
"Regarding the meeting between Foreign Minister Wang Wang and the U.S. ambassador to China, China has already released relevant information. Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance to China-U.S. relations. China and the United States are in communication regarding interactions between the two heads of state within the year," said Guo.
