Singapore celebrates giant panda Kai Kai's 19th birthday

Giant panda Kai Kai, who has been living in Singapore, turned 19 on Monday, and the Mandai Wildlife Reserve threw him a special birthday celebration one day in advance.

The celebration kicked off at noon on Sunday at River Wonders. The park prepared a three-tiered ice cake decorated with carrots and fruit skewers, along with fresh bamboo leaves. Upon discovering the special treat, Kai Kai dug in heartily and savored every bite.

Visitors at the scene also joined in the festivities, taking photos at a panda-themed birthday wall and sharing their own panda stories to send their best wishes to Kai Kai.

Kai Kai and the female giant panda Jia Jia arrived together at River Wonders under the Mandai Wildlife Reserve in September 2012, beginning their life in Singapore.

Over the past decade, the pair has been showered with affection by the Singaporean public, and every year on their birthdays, many residents and tourists make a special trip to celebrate with them. Jia Jia turned 18 on September 3 this year.

To showcase the stories of the giant pandas in Singapore in more diverse ways, the Panda Channel of CMG's CCTV.com and the Mandai Wildlife Group jointly organized a series of themed activities titled "China-Singapore Panda Bond" during the pandas' birthday period.

Through various formats, the events invite visitors to learn about the pandas' life journey, conservation knowledge, and the story of China-Singapore giant panda protection cooperation, while spreading the message of biodiversity conservation.

"Today, emerging technologies led by AI are reshaping the cyberspace landscape. As a steadfast defender of cybersecurity, China has formally brought AI into the national cybersecurity legal framework, and keeps improving related institutions, guidelines and ethical standards. China is ready to work with the international community to tackle cybersecurity risks in the AI era, advance the building of a community with a shared future in cyberspace, and let the internet better serve the peoples of all countries," he said.
