Residents have been evacuated from at-risk areas in south China's Hainan Province as persistent heavy rain battered parts of the island.
Heavy rainfall caused the river in Sandao Township, Baoting Li and Miao Autonomous County in Hainan, to surge early Monday, overflowing roads and trapping four residents in vehicles.
Rescuers provided the trapped individuals with life vests and moved them to safety. The rainfall has since eased and floodwaters have receded.
Heavy rainfall also triggered waterlogging on Hebeidong Road in Tongza Town, Wuzhishan City, on Monday morning, rapidly raising water levels and trapping a car.
Fire and rescue personnel arrived to find three people trapped inside a vehicle surrounded by deep, fast-flowing water. Rescuers donned water rescue gear, waded to the car, fitted the occupants with life jackets, and brought all three to safety.
