13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum kicks off

2026-09-16 14:19 Last Updated At:14:47

The 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum opened on Wednesday in Beijing where the country's Minister of National Defense Dong Jun gave a keynote speech.

This session has drawn official representatives, scholars, experts and observers from over 100 countries, regions and international organizations to participate.

Themed "Build Consensus on Stability, Advance Security Governance Together", this year's Xiangshan Forum will focus on the prominent and pressing major challenges currently facing the international security landscape.

The three-day event features four plenary sessions, eight parallel sessions and eight closed-door seminars, covering both traditional and unconventional security issues, such as strategic stability, regional hotspots, latest technologies and counter-terrorism operations.

Launched in 2006 as a "track-two" think-tank exchange, the Beijing Xiangshan Forum has evolved into a vital international public good, offering a space for equal dialogue and joint efforts toward global peace. "A major challenge in global security governance is the insufficient participation, voice, and representation of small and medium-sized countries. Thereby, the Beijing Xiangshan Forum provides such a platform for these countries. This is why we see a relatively high proportion of participants from these countries every year. While, the other important reason is that China has been consistently promoting the four major global initiatives put forward by President Xi, as well as the concept of building a community with a shared future for humanity. I believe these ideas have received broad recognition from the international community," said Li Shuyin, director of Beijing Xiangshan Forum Secretariat Office.
