European stocks close lower on Tuesday

European stock markets closed lower on Tuesday.

The United Kingdom's FTSE 100 index fell by 0.37 percent to close at 10,658.13 points. France's CAC 40 index shed 0.34 percent to finish at 8,090.28 points. Germany's DAX index dropped 0.15 percent to end the session at 25402.28 points.

U.S. dollar ticks up

 

The U.S. dollar increased in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.23 percent to 99.616 at 15:00 (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1543 U.S. dollars from 1.1557 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dropped to 1.3481 dollars from 1.3511 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 155.09 Japanese yen, higher than 154.05 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar climbed to 0.8185 Swiss francs from 0.8163 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3917 Canadian dollars from 1.3902 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar advanced to 9.7773 Swedish kronor from 9.7412 Swedish kronor.
