The Pamir Scenic Area in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is drawing crowds during the fall holiday season, with its early-autumn landscape turning the ancient Stone City and the Golden Grassland into a magnet for tourism.
Travelers flocked to the scenic area during China's Mid-Autumn Festival holiday from Sept 25 to 27, and more are expected ahead during the National Day holiday, running through the first week of October.
On the Golden Grassland, the meadow keeps traces of summer green as its tips turn light yellow, layering the plateau wetland in shades of amber and jade.
The Tashkurgan River winds through grazing cattle and sheep, while the Stone City stands against snow-capped mountains and blue skies. Visitors strolling the boardwalks take in magnificent views that resemble intricate oil paintings, exploring the wetland and thousand-year-old ruins.
"Before we came, friends told us that the Stone City has a history of over 2,000 years. It's magnificent, the mountains behind set it off, and below is an endless, beautiful grassland. It's well worth seeing," said Cheng Zhongming, a tourist.
"It's really beautiful. I love it here. The grassland is all in bright colors, and there are snow-capped mountains too. When I looked out from there, I just fell in love with this place. The yellow and green, the layers are stunning," said Han Xiaolin, another traveler.
