China is stepping up its rural revitalization campaign with a push to accelerate agricultural and rural modernization during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) period, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Zhang Zhu said on Tuesday in Beijing.
Speaking at a press conference on advancing the 15th Five-Year Plan covering the 2026-2030 period, Zhang said China will strive to build a robust modern agricultural industry and increasingly beautiful rural communities, driving major progress in modernizing agriculture and bringing modern living conditions to rural areas.
He also noted that the plan to accelerate agricultural and rural modernization during the 15th Five-Year Plan period serves as a clear roadmap and blueprint for the development of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers over the next five years.
Zhang outlined four priorities for advancing agriculture and rural development.
"First, we will emphasize both output and quality to enhance comprehensive agricultural production capacity and efficiency. We will relentlessly focus on grain production, working simultaneously on stabilizing the sown area and increasing crop yields, to fully ensure the stable and safe supply of grain and other vital agricultural products. On this basis, we will accelerate the development of a diversified food supply system," said the official.
"Second, we will emphasize regular and targeted assistance to continuously consolidate and expand our achievements in poverty alleviation. Third, we will highlight the dual drivers of technology and reform to accelerate agricultural and rural modernization. Fourth, we will focus on delivering tangible benefits to farmers by advancing the construction of beautiful, harmonious, and livable villages tailored to local conditions," he said.
