Chinese embassies and diplomatic missions around the world have been hosting receptions to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

The Chinese Embassy in the United States hosted a reception in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.

The event, held one day ahead of China's official National Day on Oct. 1, drew more than 800 guests, including diplomats, and representatives from the White House, the State Department and Commerce Department.

"What impressed me most is the speed with which China has made their development process. 2013, President Xi announced the Belt and Road Initiative, and then everything took off, and people were very much encouraged. So my message to the Chinese people is 'Happy National Day'!" said William Jones, Washington Bureau Chief for the Executive Intelligence Review (EIR).

The Chinese Consulate General in New York hosted a reception for over 400 guests on Monday to mark the occasion.

One of the guests, associate professor of communication at Robert Morris University Anthony Moretti, highlighted President Xi Jinping's recent initiative to invite 100,000 U.S. students to visit China over the next five years.

"President Xi's commitment of 100,000 or a proposal for 100,000 students in five years. They're really going to learn something that will last for the rest of their lives. And that's what matters," said

The Chinese mission to ASEAN also held a reception recently, which included a photo exhibition marking the fifth anniversary of the China-ASEAN Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

"I send my warmest congratulations to the People's Republic of China, its people and government on the 77th anniversary. May China continue to prosper and may its people enjoy continued peace and success. Of course also for ASEAN and China may our relations continue to grow, our partnership continue to expand and of course our cooperation will continue to be deepened,” said ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn.

The Chinese embassy in Hungary also held a National Day reception recently to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"I would like to wish prosperity and happiness to the people of the People's Republic of China. May our nations experience many more decades of shared success," said Klara Breuer, State Secretary for Bilateral Relations at Hungary’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The incident in which a Japan Self-Defense Forces officer trespassed into the Chinese Embassy in Japan with a knife constituted a serious violation of China's sovereignty and dignity, said an embassy spokesperson.

On March 24, Kodai Murata, then an active-duty second lieutenant in Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF), allegedly scaled a barbed-wire wall and broke into the Chinese embassy in Tokyo carrying a knife. He threatened to kill Chinese diplomatic personnel and was later arrested by the police.

The Tokyo District Court on Thursday held the first hearing in open court of Murata's trial.

The embassy spokesperson said that this egregious incident constituted a serious violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, a grave infringement on China's sovereignty and dignity, and a severe threat to the personal safety of Chinese diplomatic personnel and the security of diplomatic premises.

It also exposed numerous deep-seated issues, such as the rampant nature of right-wing forces in Japan and the lack of proper supervision and discipline regarding Self-Defense Forces personnel, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that facts are clear concerning the case, and the evidence is irrefutable, leaving no room for denial.

China and the international community are watching closely to see how Japan handles the matter. China urges Japan to show the proper attitude, severely punish the intruder, conduct a thorough investigation and implement corrective measures, and provide a responsible account of the incident, said the spokesperson.
