The Gaoliang Tunnel on the Yan'an-Yulin High-Speed Railway was completed on Sunday, marking a key milestone toward the line's full opening.
Cutting through the ridge-and-gully terrain of the Loess Plateau, the 3,480-meter tunnel reaches a maximum burial depth of 150 meters.
The railway in northwest China's Shaanxi Province links Yan'an Station with the under-construction Yulin South Station and forms a vital part of the Baotou (Yinchuan)–Hainan corridor, a north-south railway artery within China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed rail network.
Once operational, the Yan'an-Yulin Railway is expected to drive economic and social development across northern Shaanxi.
