Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning reaffirmed on Monday that Taiwan and the Chinese mainland are both part of one China, declaring that any push for "Taiwan separatism" is destined to fail regardless of statements or actions by Lai.

Mao made the remarks at a regular news briefing after Lai Ching-te sought to solicit external support for "Taiwan separatism" in a speech in Taipei on Saturday.

"There is but one China in the world. Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. To uphold the one-China principle, reject 'Taiwan separatism' activities and support China’s reunification is where international public opinion trends. Lai Ching-te’s so-called 'democracy' cannot hide his separatist nature. Taiwan’s return to China is an integral part of the outcome of WWII victory and the postwar international order. The real status quo across the Taiwan Strait is that both sides of the Strait belong to one and the same China. Whatever Lai Ching-te says or does, it does not change the fact backed by history and law that Taiwan belongs to China or the doomed failure of 'Taiwan separatism,' and will by no means stop China’s ultimate reunification," said Mao.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Chairman of Vietnam's National Assembly Tran Thanh Man in Beijing on Monday.

As a comrade and brother of Vietnam, China stands ready to work with the Vietnamese side to carry forward the traditional friendship, strengthen solidarity and mutual trust, better align development strategies, and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in such sectors as trade and investment, connectivity, AI, clean energy, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges, Li said.

China is also willing to enhance multilateral communication and coordination with Vietnam, he said.

Li expressed the hope that both countries' legislative bodies can give strong support to bilateral practical cooperation and play a bigger role in providing legal safeguards and fostering people-to-people ties. Tran Thanh Man said Vietnam firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and will follow the important consensus reached by the top leaders of both parties and countries to promote the building of a higher-level Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
