China is deeply concerned about the sustained regional tensions in the Middle East, and opposes attacks on civilian targets such as civil aviation airports, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday.
Guo made the statement at a regular press briefing in Beijing when asked to comment on attacks on Saudi Arabia newly launched by Yemen's Houthi group. The Houthis claimed on Tuesday that it had launched attacks on multiple targets in Saudi Arabia using ballistic missiles and drones, including the Saudi Defense Ministry and the Abha International Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
"China expresses deep concern over the continuous tensions in the region and opposes attacks on civilian targets such as civil aviation airports. China calls on the relevant parties to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation to help restore peace and tranquility in the Middle East at an early date," he said.
