The overseas Chinese community has expressed strong confidence in China's future development after getting inspired by the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s commitment to self-governance made at a key meeting concluded in Beijing last week.

The fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC, held from Oct 26 to 29, adopted a resolution on persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance. The communique from the plenary session also set out plans for tightening discipline, improving oversight and fighting corruption.

The communique outlined seven guiding principles that call for serving the Party's missions and tasks, taking strengthening the Party politically as the overarching principle, and exercising rigorous governance across the board. The principles also emphasize adopting a problem-oriented approach, upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground, adhering to a top-down approach, and running the Party according to regulations.

Yao Bin, president of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce in Laos, noted that the plenary session's strategic focus on exercising rigorous governance provides a solid foundation for the country's long-term stability and national rejuvenation.

"The plenary session emphasized strengthening full and rigorous Party self-governance. This is not only a matter of the Party's development but is also vital to the country's long-term stability and security and national rejuvenation. Although we are based overseas, we remain consistently attentive to the development of our motherland. The advancement of full and rigorous Party self-governance provides a robust guarantee for the country's development, and it also fills us with confidence in the future of our motherland," said Yao.

Liu Heling, chairman of the Chinese Youth Entrepreneurs Association in Zambia, said that the plenary session clearly highlights the CPC's steadfast commitment to self-reform.

"The plenary session clearly highlights the core of our Party's approach to self-governance: an unwavering commitment to exercising rigorous Party self-governance and pursuing self-reform. As we embark on the new journey toward the development goals set out in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), we, the overseas Chinese, remain full of confidence in the thriving development of our motherland," said Liu.

Zhang Junning, an overseas Chinese resident in Egypt, said China's sustained social stability and positive development trajectory serve as the ultimate source of pride and reassurance for those living abroad.

"The fifth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee has laid out a systematic plan for strengthening full and rigorous Party self-governance. As an overseas Chinese who has lived abroad for a long time, I see the stability and positive development of our motherland as our greatest source of strength while living overseas. We are also filled with even greater confidence in the future of our country," said Zhang.

Reflecting on recent progress China has made, Wu Jiali, deputy secretary-general of the Greece Overseas Chinese General Association, said that witnessing the motherland's growth resonates deeply with overseas Chinese.

"As our motherland prospers, we overseas Chinese can also relate to that sense of achievement. I have clearly felt the changes that have taken place in recent years. Guided by the spirit of the plenary session and drawing from my own work here in Greece, my primary goal is to align my personal career with the broader development of our motherland, and to help build bridges that foster people-to-people ties," said Wu.

Liu Meicen, president of the Uruguayan Chinese Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification, underscored how a well-governed China advancing along high-quality development paths empowers overseas Chinese worldwide.

"As our motherland continues to achieve improvements in governance and develops along the path of high-quality development, we have been filled with full confidence and strength to navigate the world. The better our motherland develops, the greater the pride and sense of honor we overseas Chinese feel. May our country enjoy prosperity and our people live in peace and harmony," she said.

Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema arrived in Beijing on Thursday as he continues his state visit to China.

Nguema arrived in the country on Tuesday to begin a five-day state visit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, marking his first trip to China since assuming the presidency last May.

Prior to arriving in Beijing, Nguema completed the first leg of his state visit in Shanghai, where he attended the opening ceremony of the ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE) earlier on Thursday.

Nguema also paid a visit to the Memorial Hall of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China on Wednesday and toured the Shanghai Pudong Exhibition Hall, where he learned about the remarkable transformations that have unfolded in the Pudong New Area over the past several decades.

President Xi is set to hold a welcoming ceremony and banquet for Nguema, while the two heads of state will also sit down for talks.

Nguema will also meet separately with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, during his stay in the Chinese capital.

The visit comes as China and Gabon this year celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides.
