Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang stresses efforts to further promote high-quality economic growth during an inspection tour of northwest China's Shaanxi Province from Monday to Wednesday.

Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the CHINT Intelligent Electric Northwest Industrial Park, LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., and the Northwest Institute for Non-ferrous Metal Research to inspect business operations and industrial transformation and upgrading.

Ding urged efforts to strengthen innovation-driven development, integrate technological and industrial innovation, ensure a fair and orderly market environment, and accelerate the building of a modern industrial system. He also emphasized supporting the development of new research institutions, enhancing applied basic research and the development of common industrial technologies to provide strong support for industrial growth.

At Northwestern Polytechnical University and Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute, Ding examined the coordinated development of education, science and technology, and human resources. He stressed the role of universities as key forces in basic research and sources of major scientific and technological breakthroughs.

He called for intensified efforts to tackle core technologies, respect and use market rules, and deepen reform of mechanisms for transforming scientific and technological achievements, which will help rapidly turn innovation into real productive forces and foster new drivers of growth.

He urged promoting integration of vocational and general education, and closer industry-education collaboration to cultivate a large number of top-tier craftsmen and skilled workers. He also emphasized the importance of career guidance services to help graduates find suitable and timely employment.

During visits to Samsung (China) Semiconductor Co., Ltd., and China-Europe Railway Express assembly center in Xi'an, Ding inquired in detail about the development of foreign-invested enterprises and efforts to expand opening up. Noting that opening up is a fundamental national policy of China, he said that the stronger the protectionist backlash, the firmer China's determination to open up.

China is willing to deepen cooperation with all parties, enhance complementary strengths, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, said Ding. He called for Shaanxi to become more deeply integrated into the Belt and Road Initiative and to give full play to the role of China-Europe Railway Express assembly center, accelerating the province's transformation into a key inland area for reform and opening up.

At the symposium held in Xi'an City, Ding said that China's economy has maintained stable performance and a sound start since the beginning of the year. He urged faster implementation of the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council, to fully unleash the country's strong development resilience and vitality.

He called for all-around expansion of domestic demand, support for foreign trade-related enterprises in overcoming difficulties, stronger efforts to stabilize employment, and effective responses to external shocks.

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Saturday that 25 ships safely transited the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours under its coordination, while the U.S. military claimed its ongoing naval blockade has forced more than 100 commercial vessels to change course over the past six weeks.

The IRGC Navy said in a statement that 25 vessels, including oil tankers, container ships and other commercial ships, crossed the strait after obtaining permission and under its security escort. Despite what Iran called "insecurity" caused by "U.S. terrorist army aggression," the IRGC Navy said it continues to exercise "smart control" over the strategic waterway.

Earlier this week, the IRGC reported that 92 vessels had crossed the strait between Tuesday and Friday, reiterating that all passages must be coordinated with and approved by its forces.

Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on social media on the same day that its blockade, imposed on April 13, has reached the milestone of redirecting 100 commercial vessels over the past six weeks. According to CENTCOM, more than 15,000 U.S. personnel have been involved, with over 200 aircraft and warships supporting the mission, including two carrier strike groups. The blockade applies to vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

The dueling claims underscore the ongoing standoff over the strait, a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments. Iran tightened its control on February 28 after U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian territory, barring vessels affiliated with the two countries. The United States responded with the blockade, which it says has squeezed Iran economically.
