China's summer box office revenue surpassed 4.5 billion yuan (620 million U.S.) as of 09:30 local time on Friday, according to data from online ticketing platforms.

The figure included presales.

Three historical dramas -- "Death to Rights," "Dongji Island," and "Mountains and Rivers Bearing Witness" -- are scheduled for release during the summer season, which runs from June to August, as this year marks the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

All the three are based on real events, aiming to highlight the resilience and sacrifices of the Chinese people during wartime.

The summer box office season is traditionally one of the country's most lucrative movie seasons.
