Emergency rescue, relief efforts underway in flood-hit Beijing suburbs

Emergency rescue and relief efforts are underway in flood-hit suburban areas of Beijing, with troops of People's Armed Police Force units deployed to rescue stranded people and deliver badly needed supplies.

Liulimiao Town in Huairou District in northeast China is one of the areas hardest hit by the disaster this time. Because the roads leading to the affected villages have all been made inaccessible by floods and silt, rescue vehicles had difficulty in getting to the affected areas. On Sunday, officers and soldiers with the Beijing People's Armed Police Corps reached the villages on foot to rescue the over 1,000 stranded people.

"We assisted the personnel at the military training base in moving the elderly to safe rooms and helped the training base sort and arrange the various kinds of items in all rooms," said Lieutenant Colonel Wang Wenshu with the local People's Armed Police Force unit.

Continuous heavy rainfall in northeastern Beijing's Miyun District has triggered floods, and Fengjiayu Village, located in deep mountains, was once out of contact. Therefore, on Sunday, a total of 17 soldiers with the local People's Armed Police Force unit walked 13 kilometers to reach the village to deliver badly needed supplies.

"All roads have been made inaccessible, so we can only cross the mountains to reach here. This is the only passage," said Colonel Wang Feng with the local People's Armed Police Force unit.

In less than two hours, the soldiers delivered over 80 boxes of daily necessities to the villagers, and successfully conveyed the disaster information to the outside world with field satellite equipment.

In northwestern Beijing's Yanqing District, there were landslides and other hazards in multiple locations. A team of People's Armed Police Force troops, backed heavy machinery, arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations.

Earlier Monday, authorities in Beijing issued a red flood alert, the highest level, as parts of the Chinese capital brace for more torrential rainfall, raising concerns over further flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas.

As U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran continue, their repercussions are increasingly being felt across Europe, Spanish residents and politicians are urging a united European to call for peace and solve the disputes through diplomatic means.

In Spain, the ongoing conflict has led to a sharp rise in the prices of goods and fuel in Madrid, the capital. People's voices are growing louder in their appeal for European nations to stand together against war and to resolve international disputes through dialogue and negotiation rather than military force.

"The U.S. has launched a war whose legitimacy is in question. The U.S. government then sought help from its allies with military bases, but the Spanish government refused this request. In response, the U.S. is considering trade restrictions against Spain, and possibly more measures. All of this is affecting local prices," said Nicolas, a Madrid resident.

Spanish officials warn that U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran are undermining international consensus and impacting the daily lives of people around the world. They urge European nations to stand with Spain in firmly opposing conflict and war, and to resolve disputes through diplomacy and negotiation.

"This conflict has indeed affected the way of life for us Spaniards. Although our military bases will not be used for attacks, food and energy prices keep rising. This means, whether we like it or not, we are directly or indirectly involved in this war, just like other parts of the world. That's why we need to show solidarity. We fully support the anti-war stance taken by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and government from the very beginning, and strongly recommend that this position be more strongly reflected at the European level," said Jose Luis Centella, chairman of the Communist Party of Spain.
