As Tianjin gears up to host this autumn's Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, the northern Chinese city is rolling out urban upgrades, rejuvenating landmarks and public spaces to showcase its vibrant energy and welcoming spirit.
Streets are now lined with flags showcasing SCO motifs, while cheerful flower baskets brighten both main roads and residential corners. Major landmarks, such as the Haihe River banks and the Wudadao historical urban area, have seen significant upgrades.
A new green sculpture themed human-nature harmony has become a popular photo spot at the Tianjin Cultural Center, attracting locals looking to relax or capture the city's rejuvenated charm.
The city has also prioritized infrastructure improvements, repairing roads and bridges crucial to both residents and summit guests. Landscape lighting along the river has been revitalized, and pocket parks have sprung up across neighborhoods, enriching community life with green, inviting spaces.
"Through this round of urban environment improvements, city roads have become safer and more efficient, with green spaces more vibrant and dynamic, and the overall cityscape cleaner and more orderly. These enhancements showcase Tianjin's modern urban character while preserving its unique cultural heritage and everyday charm. The city's appearance and spirit have seen significant upgrades, as Tianjin welcomes guests from around the world with its finest look and most graceful demeanor," said Jiao Yong, deputy director of the Tianjin Municipal Administration Commission.
Scheduled from August 31 to September 1, the SCO Tianjin summit will bring together leaders from over 20 countries and representatives of 10 international organizations for a series of high-level events.
