Potential cooperation between China and Armenia has no limits as the two countries seek to strengthen ties, said Armenian Ambassador to China Vahe Gevorgyan in Beijing ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2025.

Leaders from Asia, Europe and Africa will gather in the northern Chinese port city of Tianjin from August 31 to September 1 for the largest-ever SCO summit in history, charting the blueprint for the bloc's next decade of development.

In a recent exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Gevorgyan said his country is ready to deepen cooperation and enhance its relationship with China, with the SCO serving as vital mechanism toward that end.

"Today, we are approaching to a strategic relationship, we're approaching to strategic cooperation with China. And this cooperation is based on mutual interests, mutual respect. There is no limit to our cooperation. And we hope to achieve a new quality beginning of our relations very soon. And Armenia is interested in augmenting our bilateral trade, which is already growing rapidly. We are also very interested to make China part of our connectivity projects and to give more opportunities for infrastructure development of Armenia by the involvement of China," he said.

As one of the founding members, China has always made the SCO a diplomatic priority and firmly upheld the Shanghai Spirit of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations and pursuit of common development. The country has put forward a series of important initiatives and propositions, and contributed Chinese wisdom, solutions and dynamism to the regional development.

The ambassador commended China's leadership in the organization since the country assumed the 2024-2025 rotating presidency, during which time it has been working on strengthening the SCO's constructive role in regional peace and development.

"This year, under Chinese chairmanship, we had a lot of opportunities to participate in the work of our organization. And in this regard, also, of course, we welcome the resolve of China to give new quality to this regional security organization, also by bringing new ideas and, why not, new members, into our organization. And our cooperation with the Chinese chairmanship was excellent in this regard," he said.
