The upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Tianjin Summit will make a new chapter in regional cooperation and the development of the organization, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said in an interview.

Rahmon expressed strong anticipation for the upcoming visit to China for the SCO Tianjin summit scheduled for August 31 and September 1.

He will also attend the grand military parade on September 3, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. "I will once again be a witness to history. I believe this visit will promote cooperation between the two countries, foster a climate of mutual understanding to strengthen the goodwill for cooperation between the two countries and work towards achieving cooperative goals," said Rahmon during an interview with China Media Group in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan.

Tajikistan is one of the founding members of the SCO. Rahmon emphasized that the SCO has proven itself as a successful and influential multilateral cooperation platform, making positive contributions in various fields such as security, economy and culture.

"For us, the SCO is like our 'child.' We created it and raised it to grow and thrive. Currently, the SCO has evolved into an organization that plays a significant role on the international stage, respected both regionally and globally," said Rahmon.

In 2024, relations between Tajikistan and China were elevated to a new era of comprehensive strategic partnership, said the president, noting that practical cooperation between the two countries is rapidly advancing, with both sides continuously elevating their cooperation across various sectors.

"We are engaged in cooperation in multiple fields, including economics, trade, finance, education, healthcare and industry. The National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan, running through 2030, aligns with the Belt and Road Initiative. We have established very good cooperative relation and continue to consolidate our partnership," said Rahmon.

Rahmon expressed admiration for President Xi Jinping, highlighting their profound mutual trust. He described Xi as an experienced and far-sighted leader, as well as a wise man with profound cultural background, loyalty to the people and a calm character.

"I have been cooperating with President Xi with very profound mutual trust. We are honored to have President Xi as a reliable partner, a politician who integrates knowledge with action. President Xi possesses profound political wisdom, farsightedness and broad vision. He knows what he is doing and understands how to lead a populous country of 1.4 billion people while ensuring national peace and stability. This is a task that requires unwavering determination," said Rahmon.
