People from all ethnic groups in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have experienced continuous improvements in living conditions and a notable increase in their quality of life, according to a white paper released on Friday.
The white paper, titled "CPC (Communist Party of China) Guidelines for Governing Xinjiang in the New Era: Practice and Achievements," was issued by the Information Office of China's State Council.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which is home to over 26 million people from various ethnic groups.
Historically, Xinjiang was one of the most impoverished regions in China. However, thanks to a nationwide poverty alleviation campaign launched in 2012, all 3.06 million rural residents living in poverty in the region were lifted out of poverty by the end of 2020.
"In terms of employment, Xinjiang prioritizes job creation as essential for the livelihoods of its people. Through robust economic development and an increase in job availability, the region continually enhances its systems to promote high-quality, sufficient employment while safeguarding the workers' rights and interests. The scale of employment in Xinjiang has consistently grown, the employment structure has been optimized, and the incomes of both urban and rural residents are steadily rising," said Wang Gang, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
Xinjiang has also improved its multi-tiered social security system, establishing a robust system to ensure the well-being of its residents by providing access to education, employment, housing, healthcare, and support for the elderly, contributing to the ongoing improvements of life for locals.
