China opposes relevant countries' interference in normal judicial cooperation between sovereign states and in the internal affairs of other countries under the pretext of human rights, said Chen Xu, China's permanent representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, on Thursday, calling for the effective promotion and protection of all human rights.

Chen made the remarks at the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, which opened on September 8 and is scheduled for one month.

While delivering a joint statement on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the UN, Chen pointed out that relevant countries have made groundless accusations and smeared against normal law enforcement and judicial cooperation between sovereign states, abused unilateral coercive measures against developing countries, frequently used or threatened to use force against sovereign states.

These are blatant acts of unilateralism and hegemonism, seriously deviating from the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, he said.

Delivering a statement on behalf of China, Chen said that China attaches great importance to and safeguards human rights.

China has won the battle against poverty and achieved fruitful results during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) period, he said.

Noting that China has put forward the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), Chen said that China advocates that all parties work together to build a more just and reasonable global human rights governance system, respect the human rights paths chosen by individual countries, and firmly oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs under the pretext of human rights, as well as the politicization and instrumentalization of human rights.

China calls on all countries to jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the United Nations and effectively promote and protect all human rights, he said.
