The scenic areas across China are putting up various moon-themed activities around the Mid-Autumn Festival, or Moon Festival, which falls on Monday, attracting waves of tourists.

In Hua'an County, Fujian Province in east China, tourists joined a grand parade held in Tulou, a cluster of ancient earthen residential buildings.

Holding dozens of fish-shaped lanterns, the tourists had the opportunity to experience local culture in depth and they could also appreciate a special performance where a "goddess" scattered flower petals from a towering moon sculpture.

"I really like these Tulou. I think they are all very beautiful. I really like your culture," said a foreign tourist.

At Zhongmou County in central China's Henan Province, an iconic cinema town staged over 160 shows a day. Tourists flocked to pose with a giant moon-shaped lantern and enjoyed a special concert featuring songs inspired by the moon and Mid-Autumn traditions.

"The programs are rich and you could enjoy performances wherever you go. My family had a great time soaking up the festive vibe," said Chang Yuan, a tourist.

In Zibo City, east China's Shandong Province, an ancient town designed Mid-Autumn Festival-themed role-playing games for tourists, an innovative tourism program to immerse travelers in local culture.

In the provincial capital Jinan, an iconic traditional Chinese building, Chaoran Pavilion, attracted crowds of tourists who climbed to the top of the building and appreciated the moon while enjoying relaxing music.

"I took my child specially to feel for the traditional festive atmosphere here. Such activities that blend the moon elements with local culture are exceptionally meaningful," said Liu Jun, a tourist.

The special market set around the pavilion was also packed with tourists who were eager to buy goods and try their hands on making traditional handicrafts.

"Our bookmarks are decorated with filigree enamel painting, featuring traditional symbols such as rabbits and the moon, and they’re selling well. Many customers like to take home some Mid-Autumn Festival vibe," said Shi Huimin, salesperson at a local souvenir store.
