China is glad to see Russia and the United States stay in contact in promoting political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday.

Lin made the remarks in response to a media inquiry regarding U.S. President Donald Trump's Thursday statement that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary in the coming weeks.

"China supports all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of the crisis and is glad to see Russia and the U.S. stay in contact to improve their mutual relations and promote the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis," Lin said.
