Chinese shares close lower Tuesday with record single-day A-share trading turnover

Chinese stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the total trading turnover at the A-share market reaching a record high for the second consecutive day.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.64 percent to 4,138.76 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.37 percent lower at 14,169.40 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, dropped 1.96 percent to close at 3,321.89 points.

China launched a Long March-8A carrier rocket on Friday in the southern island province of Hainan, sending a new group of internet satellites into space.

The rocket lifted off at 03:48 from the Hainan commercial spacecraft launch site.

It successfully placed the payloads, the 20th group of low-orbit internet satellites, into preset orbit.
