China has carried out the death sentences of four members of the Bai family criminal group for large-scale cross-border telecom fraud and violent crimes targeting Chinese citizens, according to a report from the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China on Monday.

The executions followed final approval by the Supreme People's Court, after appeals by the defendants were rejected and original death sentences upheld.

Since 2015, the criminal gang headed by Bay Saw Chain has built over 41 large-scale compounds in northern Myanmar to carry out telecom fraud and illegal online gambling operations, said the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

These scam centers have been used to aggressively conduct illegal activities targeting Chinese citizens and to lure individuals from China into crossing borders illegally to engage in gambling and fraudulent schemes.

Investigations further revealed that the criminal group maintained armed control over these centers and condoned violent enforcement tactics, including abuse, assault and even murder of lower-level telecom fraud operatives.

According to China's public security authorities, the criminal group is suspected of involvement in activities that led to the deaths of six Chinese citizens. It is found to be linked to more than 31,000 telecom fraud cases, with fraud- and gambling-related funds exceeding 29 billion yuan (about 4.17 billion U.S. dollars).

The group is also found to have been involved in the production and trafficking of approximately 11 tons of drugs.

In November 2025, the court sentenced five of them, namely Bai Yingcang, Yang Liqiang, Hu Xiaojiang, and Chen Guangyi, to death, including the clan's patriarch Bai Suocheng, who died of illness after his conviction.

The Supreme People's Court said the crimes were particularly severe in nature, with grave consequences, and that the original verdicts were based on clear facts, sufficient evidence and lawful judicial procedures. It therefore approved the death sentences.

After receiving the Supreme People's Court's criminal ruling and execution orders, the Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court in south China's Guangdong Province carried out the death sentences for the four people in accordance with the law. The criminal's close relatives were allowed to meet with them prior to the executions.
