China Media Group (CMG) held a promotion event for its 2026 Spring Festival Gala in Hamburg, Germany on Thursday, with the attendees expecting closer cooperation and exchanges between the two countries in the new year.

More than 120 guests, including diplomats from multiple countries and people from political, business, cultural and other circles in Germany attended the event titled "Prelude to Spring Festival Gala: The World Watches the CMG Gala Together".

The guests expressed their expectations that China and Germany will deepen cooperation and exchanges in areas such as economy and trade, scientific research and culture, and that bilateral relations will see solid growth in the new year.

At the event, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra played classic Chinese pieces, and Chinesisch-Chor an der Burg sang famous Chinese songs in both Chinese and German.

"I think such an activity allows people to see a different type of culture and also draws people's interest to a culture which is totally new experience to them. Perhaps many participants will be more interested in Chinese culture after today's activity, especially young attendees may want to establish more connections with China," said a member of the Chinesisch-Chor an der Burg.

Promotional video of the CMG 2026 Spring Festival Gala and a video collection of the "China Travel with Chinese Films" campaign were screened at the event, which also displayed cultural and creative products on the gala.

Yuyuan Garden in Hamburg was lit up with red to greet the Chinese New Year.

It is a mimic version of the Yuyuan Garden, a renowned traditional Chinese-style garden in China's economic powerhouse Shanghai.

Hamburg has been the sister city of Shanghai since 1986.

The festive spirit is growing ahead of the Spring Festival, China's most important annual holiday which marks the start of the Chinese New Year and will fall on Feb 17 this year, ushering in the Year of the Horse.

As the world's most-watched annual TV program, the CMG's Spring Festival Gala, also known as "Chunwan," was first broadcast back in 1983 and is seen as a major cultural symbol for the traditional Spring Festival celebrations in China.
