A Spring Festival drone show is illuminating the night sky over Dunhuang, a historic oasis city and key junction on the ancient Silk Road, in northwest China's Gansu Province, from Friday to Monday.
The show starts at 20:00 with more than 1,000 drones, which take flight simultaneously and move together in perfect synchrony to paint glowing shapes across the night sky.
The choreographed drones arrange themselves into various formations to depict many of Dunhuang's historic sites and natural wonders, such as Buddhist temples of the UNESCO-listed Mogao Grottoes and the iconic Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Spring scenic spot, and camels traveling on the ancient Silk Road.
Other displays feature blooming flowers, a galloping horse -- the Chinese zodiac animal sign this year, Chinese characters for spring and good fortune, and other Spring Festival symbols.
Today's Dunhuang is a premier cultural and tourist center in northwest China, attracting millions of tourists from all over the world every year.
