Ukrainian President told reporters on Wednesday that a new round of trilateral talks among Ukraine, the United States and Russia is expected to take place in early March, while the Kremlin spokesman emphasized that any high-level meeting will require thorough expert-level preparations, according to media reports.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine and the United States will first hold bilateral talks in Geneva, Switzerland on Thursday, and the agenda will include Ukraine's reconstruction plan, prisoner exchanges, and issues related to the upcoming trilateral meeting.
He said that Ukraine will raise the issue of steps to end the conflict during the talks on Thursday, but he is uncertain whether there will be a clear outcome regarding territorial issues in any ceasefire proposal.
Zelensky emphasized that territorial matters should be discussed at the leadership level.
According to Russian media on Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that extremely detailed expert-level preparations are required before any high-level meeting.
He noted that the trilateral presidential talks would only make sense once relevant agreements are finalized.
Peskov also accused Ukraine of participating in the peace process not to seek a peaceful resolution, but to secure funding from Europe.
Meanwhile, U.S. media reported that U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Wednesday that the Russia-Ukraine conflict has not ended, and the best way forward is continued diplomatic engagement.
Vance also acknowledged that the United States has no illusions that Russia and Ukraine will easily reach a settlement.
